Sheila A. Dempsey has been the Rescue Committee Co-chair of the Hedgehog Welfare Society since 2006 and a hedgehog owner since 2004.  Originally from North Texas, she relocated to southern Maryland in December of 1999 after visiting the area and falling in love with it.  In 2005 she and her partner, Murfi Jackson, were excited to discover The Hedgehog Welfare Society, which has been meeting the needs of the hedgehog community since October 2001.  In 2005 they began working with rescue hedgehogs.  "Tru Chance Hedgehog Rescue and Rehab" is named after their first two rescues, Tru and Chance.

Jennifer Thedford, DVM    of Plano, Texas  

Dr. Thedford is a proud hedgehog owner herself in addition to one of the metroplex's most trusted and knowledgeable veterinarians for our little quilled friends! She will give a panel with Q & A session on the care and needs of hedgehogs.

Suzanne Wooldridge    - Children's Book Author

Author of 'The Roundabout Hedgehog Journey' Suzzanne Wooldridge will be reading her book to children during the show and autographing copies. Her book will be available for sale at the show!

Home Cooking for Hedgehogs! - Learn how to make your own hedgehog food & treats at home the natural healthy way! There will be plenty of Q & A in the panel and we will hand out free copies of some of our easy recipies that you can prepare for your lil' hedgie buddy yourself. We will demonstrate step by step how to make an easy hedgie snack and we will share samples at the end for the hedgies in our audiance. *Our full cook book will be available for purchase for only $4.99 at the show as well as online, too.

Caring for your Hedgehog - Lecture by DFW area veterinarian and hedgie owner Jennifer Thedford, DVM of Plano, Texas. This panel will cover some of the more specific medical needs and common problems that pet hedgie owners face. Dr. Thedford will answer your questions and provide you with a wealth of information that you need to know as pet owners -including how to know when it is time to be giving her a call!

Hedgehog Rescue & The Hedgehog Welfare Society - presentation by guest Sheila A. Dempsey of the HWS. Sheila will discuss the efforts of this rescue group explaining everything from her personal experiances as a rescue voluteer to the adoption process and how you too can help rescue hedgehogs in need!
